Block Breaker
One paddle, one ball, and a wall of 24 blocks in three rows. Three lives. The ball's exit angle depends on where it hits the paddle: that's where the game lives.
Tap to launch the ball
Move the paddle with your mouse, finger, or arrow keys.
Getting started
- Position the paddle. Before launch the ball sits on it and follows your movement.
- Launch. Click the board, tap it, press Space, or use the Launch button.
- Bounce. Don't let the ball slip past the bottom edge. Every escape costs one of your three lives.
- Aim. Hitting with the tip of the paddle opens up the angle; hitting with the middle sends the ball back almost straight.
- Clear the screen. The 24 blocks are worth 10 points each, so the whole wall is worth 240.
Controls
Mouse or trackpad
Move the mouse over the board and the paddle follows the cursor. A click on the board launches the ball.
Touch
Drag your finger across the board to move the paddle; a tap launches. The ◀ and ▶ buttons below the board are for fine adjustments.
Keyboard
← and → move the paddle; Space or Enter launches the ball. The arrow buttons also respond to Tab and Enter.
Tips that work for this game
- Stay near the center between bounces. From the middle the paddle can reach both sides of the board in time.
- Open a tunnel through one of the side columns: once the ball gets behind the wall, it ricochets between the ceiling and the blocks and clears several on its own.
- The ball speeds up slightly with every block you knock down. The hard part isn't the start: it's keeping control when four or five blocks are left.
- Use the tip of the paddle on purpose when one corner block is left. It's the only way to reach the corner without waiting for a lucky ricochet.
- Lost a life? The ball comes back stuck to the paddle and the game waits for you. Breathe, reposition, and only then launch.

Three. A ball that slips past the bottom edge costs one life and comes back stuck to the paddle. When all three are gone, the game ends.
It does, and that's the core mechanic of the game. The spot on the paddle where the ball lands sets its exit angle: in the middle it goes up almost straight, at the tips it flies off wide. That's how you reach the blocks in the corners.
There are 24 blocks, in three rows of eight. Each block you knock down is worth 10 points, so clearing the whole screen is worth 240 points.
Three ways, all active at the same time: mouse or finger over the board, the ← and → arrow keys, or the ◀ and ▶ buttons below the board.
It is, only on your device. Your highest score goes into your browser's local storage and shows on the scoreboard as Best. Clearing the site's data erases it.
No. The New game button stops the animation loop before anything else, resets score and lives, and puts all 24 blocks back: not a single frame of the old game runs after the restart.
No. A bounce off the paddle always sends the ball back with an upward vertical component, so it never ends up bouncing endlessly from wall to wall.
